Origin: China
Botanical name: Magnolia officianalis
Magonlia has been used for a 1000 years by the Chinese and Japanese people as a herbal tea and recently as a health supplement due to recent human studies on the potent alkaloids it contains.
Magnolia is natures natural benzodiazepine. It works on the same receptors. In fact the alkaloids honokiol and dihydrohonokiol are described as producing anxiolytic, diazepam-like effects resulting in lowered anxiety and better sleep.
Could Magnolia be a possible alternative to CBD oil in countries where it is restricted?
Magnolol the main alkaloid of Magnolia root bark is a partial agonist at both endocannabinoid receptor subtypes (CB1 and CB2); with a higher potency at CB2.
The main alkaloids Magnolol, honokiol, and THM show higher intrinsic activity at CB1 than tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main cannabis euphoriant compound.
This may have a role to play in the plants anti-cancer, antioxidative, and anti-inflammatory agents
